System Protection Facilities

Definition

Equipment — including necessary protection signal communications equipment — required to protect (1) the Transmission Provider's Transmission System from faults or electrical disturbances at the Generating Facility, and (2) the Generating Facility from faults or disturbances on the Transmission System or other connected systems. System Protection Facilities include protective relays, breakers, communications channels, and associated equipment at both ends of the interconnection that must coordinate to ensure safe, reliable operation.
