Definition
An ancillary service consisting of generating capacity — either online or offline — that can be brought to full load within 10 minutes following a system disturbance. Unlike Spinning Reserves, Supplemental Reserves need not be synchronized to the grid at the time of the contingency, providing a second tier of backup capacity to restore system reliability after an event.
