Energy Imbalance Service

Definition

An ancillary service that corrects for differences between scheduled and actual energy flows within a Control Area over a given settlement period. When a Transmission Customer's actual energy delivery differs from its scheduled amount, the Transmission Provider uses Energy Imbalance Service to make up the difference. Significant imbalances are subject to financial penalties to incentivize accurate scheduling.
