Transmission Services

Redispatch

Definition

The process of changing the output levels of generators from their economic merit order dispatch to relieve a transmission constraint, usually resulting in higher overall generation costs. When a transmission line or interface limit prevents the cheapest available generator from serving load, operators redispatch by reducing output from cheap, constrained-in generators and increasing output from more expensive but unconstrained generators on the load side of the bottleneck.
