FERC Orders

Order 2006 — Small Generator Interconnection (2005)

Definition

Standardized interconnection procedures for small generators (generally ≤ 20 MW) by establishing the pro forma Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP) and Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA), creating a simplified, uniform path that all transmission providers must use — paralleling the large generator standardization of Order 2003. Created two expedited review screens — a 10 MW simplified process and a 2 MW fast-track process — providing proportionate levels of engineering review based on project size and grid impact. This standardization was particularly important for community solar, small wind, and distributed generation projects that had faced disproportionate barriers under non-uniform, utility-specific interconnection practices.
