Emergency Condition

Definition

A condition requiring immediate protective action. Under the LGIP, Emergency Condition has three specific prongs: (1) any condition imminently likely to endanger life or property; (2) for the Transmission Provider, a condition imminently likely to cause material adverse effects on the security of its Transmission System, Interconnection Facilities, or directly connected systems; or (3) for the Interconnection Customer, a condition imminently likely to cause material adverse effects on the Generating Facility or its Interconnection Facilities. System restoration and black start are considered Emergency Conditions; Interconnection Customers are not obligated to possess black start capability. Under the OATT, Emergency Conditions also justify curtailment of even firm transmission service.
