Balancing Authority

Definition

The responsible entity that integrates resource plans ahead of time, maintains load and resource balance within a Balancing Authority Area, and supports interconnection frequency in real time. The Balancing Authority uses Automatic Generation Control (AGC) and schedules energy interchange with neighboring areas to ensure that electricity supply continuously matches demand within its footprint on a second-by-second basis.
