Definition
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) or its successor organization, certified by FERC under Section 215 of the Federal Power Act to develop and enforce mandatory reliability standards for the bulk electric system. NERC's standards — covering planning, operations, protection, and cybersecurity — are mandatory and enforceable throughout the continental United States, Canada, and portions of Mexico.
