Grid Operations

Electric Load (System Load)

Definition

The aggregate power and energy requirements of all customers and end-use devices connected to the electric power system at a given time or over a given period. Electric load — measured in MW for instantaneous demand and MWh for energy consumed — is what generators and transmission systems must continuously serve. This general concept is distinct from Network Load under the OATT, which is a customer's specifically designated load obligation for Network Integration Transmission Service billing and service rights.
