Grid Operations

Base Case

Definition

The power flow model of the transmission system representing normal operating conditions, with all elements in service and loads and generation at their studied levels. The Base Case is the starting point for all contingency analyses; engineers remove elements one at a time (or in combinations) from this steady-state snapshot to evaluate how the system responds and whether reliability criteria are violated.
