Definition
The electric potential difference between two points, measured in volts (V) or kilovolts (kV), which drives the flow of electric current through a conductor. In transmission operations, voltage at each bus must be maintained within acceptable limits — typically ±5% of nominal — to ensure reliable equipment operation and efficient power transfer. Voltage control is achieved through generator reactive power output, transformer tap adjustments, switched capacitor banks and reactors, and FACTS devices.
