Generator Interconnection

Network Resource Interconnection Service (NRIS)

Definition

The higher level of interconnection service under FERC's pro forma LGIP, which allows a generator to be designated as a Network Resource — creditable for meeting a load-serving entity's capacity (resource adequacy) requirements. NRIS requires additional transmission upgrades to ensure the generator can deliver its full capacity to load under all applicable reliability criteria, making it more expensive than ERIS but providing firmer delivery rights.
