Generator Interconnection

Energy Resource Interconnection Service (ERIS)

Definition

One of two levels of interconnection service under FERC's pro forma LGIP, allowing a generator to inject energy into the grid but without capacity deliverability guarantees that would allow it to count toward meeting a load-serving entity's resource adequacy requirements. ERIS typically requires fewer (and lower-cost) transmission upgrades than NRIS but exposes the generator to a higher risk of energy curtailment during congested conditions.
