Definition
A closed path of conductors and connected equipment through which electric current can flow. In power systems, circuits range from simple single-phase connections to complex three-phase networks spanning hundreds of miles of transmission lines, transformers, breakers, and buses. Circuit analysis — applying Ohm's Law, impedance, and Kirchhoff's laws — is the foundation for power flow studies, fault current calculations, relay coordination, and all transmission planning and operational assessments.
