Federal Power Act

Definition

The federal statute, as amended, codified at 16 U.S.C. §§ 791a et seq., that grants FERC jurisdiction over wholesale electricity markets and the interstate transmission and sale of electric energy. The Federal Power Act is the legal foundation for FERC's authority to require open-access transmission under the OATT, regulate generator interconnection under the LGIP, and oversee wholesale electricity markets.
