Department of Energy Organization Act

Definition

Federal statute (Pub. L. 95-91) that established the Department of Energy in 1977 and placed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission within the executive branch as an independent agency. Substantive electric jurisdiction comes primarily from the Federal Power Act; the DOE Organization Act supplies part of the institutional framework for how FERC operates as a rulemaking and enforcement body.
